roots reach & travel underground connecting crossing continents eating and drinking maybe chatting about this and that.

trees above ground lean to the sun or straight up or bend to a friend.i have seen a tree curtsy. drop leaves and branches without regret. catch the wind and sing its song. breathe so we can.

a felled tree a nest its flesh soft and red its heartwood ripe with fungi salamanders birds and snakes raccoons and saplings a hot mess lush and fecund.

Trees are not metaphors unless they are.
