IS IT SAFE TO SEND YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL?
We may not be number 1 in math or language arts. We are in school shootings.
Today in Nashville at The Covenant School: “Officials at the medical center say three young students were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with gunshot wounds. All three were pronounced dead after arrival. Three more adults were also pronounced dead following the attack. All three were staff at the school.”
I see the governor and all the right people have sent their support and prayers.
I think even God sees this as a pitiful response.
I write a lot about equity and schools, pedagogy, and digital solutions. But none of this makes a difference when compared to the murder and maiming of our children.
In addition to support and prayers, ACT! Don’t vote for anyone who takes money from a gun lobby. You can find this information on OpenSecrets website, a group that follows the money.
Phone your senators and representatives: Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the office you request.
Assault rifle prohibition effect: “These guns are often used in mass shootings and recovered at crime scenes, but research shows a prohibition on assault weapons can prevent mass shooting fatalities and active shooter events. A study comparing the period during the federal assault weapons prohibition (1994-2004) to the 13 years before and after the prohibition estimated that a prohibition would have prevented 314 of 448 mass shooting deaths that occurred during the studied periods when the prohibition was not in effect. Another study found state assault weapons prohibitions are associated with a lower likelihood of an active shooter event. Lawmakers should act urgently to prohibit these excessively dangerous firearms.”
